स पर्यगाच्छुक्रमकायमव्रणमस्नाविरंशुद्धम् अपापविद्धम् ।
कविर्मनीषी परिभूः स्ययम्भूर्याथातथ्यतोऽर्थान्व्यदधाच्छाश्वतीभ्यः समाभ्यः॥ 8 ॥

sa paryagācchukramakāyamavraṇamasnāviraṁ śuddhamapāpaviddham |
kavirmanīṣī paribhūḥ svayambhūryāthātathyato’rthān vyadadhāt śāśvatībhyaḥ samābhyaḥ || 8 ||

He who sees all beings in the Brahm alone, and Brahm in all beings, he does not shrink from anything (feels no revulsion)

Interpretation:

• शुक्रम् (Shukram): Radiant, pure light
• अकायम् (Akayam): Without body, beyond form
• अव्रणम् (Avranam): Free from wounds, beyond suffering
• अस्नाविरम् (Asnaviram): Without sinews, not bound by organs or nerves
• शुद्धम् (Shuddham): Pure, uncontaminated
• अपापविद्धम् (Apapaviddham): Untouched by sin or evil
• कविः (Kavi): The seer, one who sees everything
• मनीषी (Manishi): The thinker, the wise
• परिभूः (Paribhu): The supreme, existing above all
• स्वयम्भूः (Svayambhu): Self-existent, not created by anything else
• याथातथ्यतः (Yathatathyatah): As it is, exactly as it should be
• अर्थान् व्यदधात् (Arthaan Vyadadhat): Properly arranged, ordered
• शाश्वतीभ्यः समाभ्यः (Shashvatibhyah Samabhyah): For all eternal ages, timelessly

It is radiant, bodiless, without injury, without sinews, pure, untouched by sin.
It is the seer, the thinker, all-pervading, self-existent.
It has properly ordered everything, for all times eternal.

Interpretation:

This verse describes the true nature of Brahm, the eternal reality. Unlike our human body, which is fragile and bound by limitations, Brahm is formless and indestructible. It does not have a body, organs, or wounds, so it cannot decay.
Pure and Untouched by Sin – Unlike human beings who are influenced by actions (karma), Brahm remains untouched.
The Seer and Thinker – It witnesses everything without being involved, like a silent observer.
Self-Existent – It doesn’t need a cause; it exists by itself.
The Cosmic Organizer – It has arranged the universe in perfect order, sustaining all times and ages.
In essence, this verse shows that Brahm is beyond life and death. Brahm transcends human limitations. Yet, it is the intelligence that governs everything.

Application in Daily Life:

Let go of fear of mortality: Just as Brahm is eternal, the Self within us (Atman) is also eternal. Realizing this helps us face life and death with courage.
Stay detached from sin and negativity: Our true nature is pure. Wrong actions cloud us temporarily, but they can’t reach the essence of who we are.
Trust in the cosmic order: Even when life feels chaotic, there is a deeper intelligence sustaining everything. This faith can reduce stress and anxiety.
Live with purity and wisdom: Brahm is pure and wise. We should align our actions with purity, truth, and wisdom. Doing this brings us closer to that divine reality.

Conclusion:

Isha Upanishad Verse 8 reminds us that the ultimate reality is beyond body, time, and imperfection. While our human life is bound by change, aging, and struggles, the eternal Self within us is untouched. By understanding this, we learn to rise above fear, live with purity, and trust the larger order of existence.

Just as explored in my earlier reflection on Verse 5 of the Isha Upanishad, the Upanishads repeatedly invite us to see beyond the surface of reality and discover the eternal truth that is always present.
