Namesake…

“What’s in a name? that which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet.” – William Shakespeare

I am a great admirer of William Shakespeare and wherever you find this quote to its contrary you find his name written beneath. If you had the choice, would you rename yourself or stick to your name?

People are very choosy when it comes to naming their children; some also celebrate this moment while some sects even have functions or ceremonies defined for the purpose of naming a baby.

I am sure parents across the world are equally excited when a new one joins the family and are excited to choose a name wisely.

As far as India is concerned it plays very important part in almost all religions and across all genres of society. We spend considerable amount of time in researching the new comer’s name. Trivial techniques consist of seeking advice from elders and asking your family and friends for suggestion.

The factors which are usually considered while naming in this part of the world are:

  • Unique: It should be as unique as possible; no one should have heard it before. People end up keeping complex name for their babies owing to this at times difficult to pronounce.
  • Meaningful:  Name should have a proper meaning. Most of the time name is not a proper noun.
  • Holy: Try to name your baby after the name of God/Goddess like Radha, Krishna, Sia etc.
  • Nickname: In a majority of the cases this name gets derived over time by what most people start calling you when you were born. This is contributed by Grandparents, parents, siblings and neighbors. It is too late when you realize that your baby has got a name.  This is name by which the new born will be known for the rest of his life to his entire family and friends and neighbors. There may be more than one nickname. It is associated with a lot of love and tied with sweet memories.

My name(Subhash) too has a very special significance and at the same time it holds a very high regard in the society. I will go ahead in explaining about this.

1- Meaning

If I break it up it will split in:

Subhash – Su + Bhash

It consists of

Su – it means beautiful, good or well. It is used in conjuction with greeting like Subh Ratri ( Good night), Subh Din( Good Day) Subh Diwali (Happy Diwali).

Bhash – it means well spoken language or speech.

So combining the two, Subhash implies a person who is very well spoken.

2-Namesake

I have a namesake, a person who played a very significant role in liberating India. Reference is to the freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, as my parents were a big follower of his so they named me after him. Netaji holds a place of great respect and esteem in the Indian society and he is regarded as the founder of INA.

I am proud of my name and always take with a pride and love to keep it, thanks Mom and Dad for this nomenclature. It will always remind me of the fact:

  1. To be well spoken
  2. To remember Netaji
  3. Remind me of my Mom and Dad.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and let me know your namesake.

Special thanks to 6 year old daughter  Pearl who helped me to photograph the key chain despite her busy morning schedule to compete with the school bus in the morning, Love you baby.

Thank you for this beautiful world

A few days back my 6 year old insisted to join me for the morning prayers. She would get up take a bath and join me for the morning prayers.

Thank-you-for-this-world
Thank you Oh Lord for all that you have given to us.

Whilst I did my usual daily prayers and thanked Lord for whatever he has given me. She would repeat word by word after me and to end with she added

“Thank you God for giving us the beautiful world.”

She repeated it again and this time she added, “Hey Daddy ! Why don’t you repeat the last line after me.”

Her prayers were real and full of truth and innocence, she was not asking anything but thankful for what God has given us.

That day my daughter taught me very important aspects of life:

  1. We forget the real joy of life and the abundant things we are blessed with, after all we are the only planet where life exists in the milky way and
  2. Children’s teach us a lot and act as an eye opener to us. We just need to spend more quality time with them.

Let’s start to stop worrying about petty stuff and be thankful to the Almighty for all that you have been blessed with.

Take a break: Get Pampered by Nature….

If you were able to divide your time between two places evenly which place would it be.

People living an urban life will agree with the fact that we are blessed with enough courage and potential to fight the daily traffic, reach our work, empty our creative juices and then again steer clear the traffic and head home.

Ascending to the hills, Adobe to heaven, Switching places.

To rejuvenate and refill the mind, body, soul and spirit we do take breaks. It pays to take some time off from our regular schedule whether it is at office or from home and plan for a change. It also gives us the immense opportunity to discover and explore new venues which this journey provides and it helps us grow further in our personal and professional life.

If I had the power to split places daily I would choose Manali. I have visited this Himalayan hill station thrice and it offered me to go back reloaded. Each of the visit is associated with a part of my life, while people would not like to visit the same place again then in my case I chose with a reason every time:

  • My first visit was when I just had started earning some penny and it was with my friends.
  • The second lap was when I got married – my wife saw the albums and insisted to take me there. So it became my second visit.
  • When my daughter grew up she was fascinated by watching our photographs(seems see inherited from her Mom) in ice covered mountains and the listening the stories which her Mumma had narrated that she succeeded in convincing me. We wanted to relive the moment with her and make her dream come true of making a snow man. So this became the third visit and it happened a few months back.

Passing by the caves made by drilling mountains, salute to the engineers. This shortens the route by connecting the mountains.

The place is calm and quite and the ecology provides relaxation of the mind and soul. The cold weather provides immense warmth for the mind and body. You tend to forget all your worries and pain.

Besides the hill there are loads of pine trees, apple, plum, pear and cherry trees all around. In fact the place where we had out up had a orchard and we would ensure that we had our share daily.

The place is also abode to many temples each having it’s own historic relevance and a story behind it. One such temple is associated with Sage Manu and it is believed that the place got his name from the sage.

Then there are Buddhist temple where you discover your inner-self by chanting:

Om Mani Padme Hum

A powerful mantra which echoes in the halls and transforms you. It means that you transform your impure mind, body and speech into a high and pure body, speech and mind of Buddha.

Never miss out to enjoy the local food and restaurant by taking some tips from the locals and enjoy shopping from the traditional and ethnic markets with loads of steal deals to take away.

The visit to the snow cap Rohtang Pass is the USP. The paradise is uphill 50-60 kms. The snow capped mountain has a wide variety of sports activity besides skiing.  The wind blows very strong and is very cold and dry at times, with the pressure dipping it may add to bleeding. The temperatures dips to very low and usually you descned back before after noon.

Some random clicks from the snow capped hill top.
Just a few people there, only you and the hills.

As said good or bad time will pass and it is always hard to say good bye to this place.

So take a break, lets recharge ourself and spend some quality time with the world we love the most our family.

10 years back we printed photographs for all occasions and maintained albums, Now I wonder after 10-15 years how do we ensure we have the digital photographs protected with us?

I have another hobby of creating a video every time I visit a place, this consists of the photographs as well as the videos and I do good editing in it. It takes quite some time to complete it. I made the video for this vacation too, however it was too long so in fact I will share a small sub set of it. Do take some time out and hope you enjoy watching it:

Have a great time ahead…. Keep travelling and posting.

Once More…

If you were able to relive one day from the last 12 months, which day would it be — and why?

Seriously for me this would be the time when I celebrate my daughters birthday.

It is always a lovely and wonderful feeling to see the shine in the face of your child, to watch the joy in their eyes and the happiness in their smile at their birthday. This is the biggest wealth.

They eagerly  wait for this day and in my case she starts counting 2 months prior and prepares the list of ToDos and guests.

Give me another chance so that I can Relive the day once again.

Dear power angel do bless us and give back an extra day to celebrate.

A sensation — a taste, a smell, a piece of music — what that transports you back to childhood.

 “The Childhood Transporter.”

Christmas Carols take me to my childhood. We used to take part in the winter concert and music fest.

Marbles draw my attention to childhood.

Candies take me back down the child hood lane.

Kites flying high in the sky pull my strings of childhood.

Smell of  freshly baked Cookies take me to my childhood.

The pitter patter of rain and sailing paper boats in the rain water take me to my childhood.

The fresh aroma after rain from the parched mud which was desperately waiting for some water, takes me back to my childhood.

Jon Bon Jovi, Def Lepard, Richard Marx, Pink Floyd, Bee Gees, Johny Cash, Cliff Richard any of their classics reminds me of the old days.

Above all spending time with my daughter, she is my childhood reborn and I relive my childhood with her.
